Is your stomach gurgling just halfway through your cross-country
skiing outing? Are your kids complaining that they´re hungry, yet lunch is still a few miles/kilometers away? Next time pack your backpack with three simple and delicious snacks that are real quality food.
Maple Roasted Nuts
1/2 quart or 1/2 liter mixed nuts, unsalted
4 tablespoons maple syrup
Preheat oven to 392 F or 200 C. Measure up the nuts and mix with maple syrup. Pour onto a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Bake 3-5 minutes or until your house is filled with the sweet smell of maple roasted nuts. Allow to cool. Place in an airtight plastic container for your winter outing.
Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
1 quart or 1 liter half fat milk
4 heaped tablespoons cocoa
Honey to taste
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Gently mix the cocoa into the milk over low heat with a manual beater. Once it is warm and well mixed, mix in honey to taste. Add a sprinking lf cinnamon. Pour into a thermos.
Don´t forget to take along a few juicy, sweet oranges (and some paper towel!) which perfectly complement the other great flavors in your backpack. Have a great outing!
