Make an old folder new!

Old used folders for storing paper seem to be just everywhere and there is still a need to use them. Freshen up an old folder with a worn out cover by sticking fabric to it. In the picture below you can see a ‘redressed’ folder to the right.

Cut the fabric and glue it onto the front of the folder. Let the fabric hang out on the sides as it will be folded in on the other side. The fabric doesn’t need to be hemmed. Best is to use a roller to achieve an even surface with the glue and then lay the fabric over it. Clumps of glue easily seep through the fabric. I’ve folded in the fabric along the green spine of the folder. Even out the fabric so that any folds even out.

Now that the front of the folder is done you can wrap the fabric around the rest of the folder. You need about 1,5-2 cm (just under 1 inch) of fabric in order to fold over and paste the fabric onto the inside covers.

Press the corners together and fold down, gluing the fabric to the inside of the covers. There are various ways to do a corner but this approach is relatively simple.

Make sure that the corners are well pressed down.

Cut a piece of paper, possibly one with a nice patter, that can be used on the inside covers. In my case the folder was for A4 paper, a standard size in Sweden, so that I could use a ready-made size. Glue onto the inside covers and allow the paper to cover the fabric edges. Done!

En gammal pärm som ny!

Det vimlar av använda tomma pärmar för att förvara papper i och det finns fortfarande ett behov av att använda dem. Fräscha upp en gammal pärm med slitna pärmar (omslag) genom att limma fast tyg på dem. I bilden nedan finns en omklädd pärm till höger.

Klipp till önskat tyg och limma fast det på framsidan av pärmen. Låt det sticka ut på sidorna efersom det ska vikas in från andra hållet. Tyget behöver inte fållas. Använd gärna en roller för limma på pärmytan för att få en jämn limyta och lägg sedan tyget ovanpå. Större klumpar lim tränger lätt igenom tyget annars. Längs med den gröna ryggen har jag vikt in tyget. Jämna ut tyget så att alla veck rätar ut sig.

Då framsidan är färdig kan tyget klippas ytterligare runt pärmen, du behöver ha ca 1,5-2 cm för att vika in och limma fast tyget på insidan.

Kläm ihop hörnen och pressa ned upptill för att sedan klistra fast. Det finns ett flertal sätt att göra hörn på men detta är relativt enkelt.

Pressa ned hörnen ordentligt.

Klipp till ett papper som kan användas på insidan av pärmen, gärna vackert mönstrat. I mitt fall var pärmen för A4-papper, en vanlig storlek i Sverige, och jag kunde använda ett redan färdigklippt ark. Limma fast och låt det täcka tygkanten. Klart!
